"Just Five Minutes"

This book is written by Syrian writer Heba Dabbagh.A heart touching story that really changed my views about the Syrian gov. This book was translated by Bayan Khatib and published in February 2007.This book have six parts describing each and every situation clearly and a note that gives an idea about  the Arabic words used in the book.Translation of this book is in simple English so its easy to grasp the content of the book. This heartrending memoir unravels the most perilous period in Syria's modern history, a time when President Asad's notorious secret service agents, the Mukhabarat, hunted down and imprisoned anyone even remotely associated with political opposition. Heba Dabbagh's story begins when Mukhabarat agents storm into her apartment and ask for "just five minutes" of her time. They drag her to a military interrogation unit where a long list of fabricated allegations awaits her. From there, Dabbagh takes us on a journey through the prisons of Syria and reveals the nightmares that come to life in the Mukhabarat interrogation and torture chambers. During her nine year imprisonment, Dabbagh shares cells and stories with members of the political opposition, communists, spies, children and even members of her own family. In this candid chronicle, Dabbagh exposes the oppression that thousands have lived but few dare to voice.

The dying islands
Even after technological advancement many villages in kerala still prevail on olden traditional methods. One such method of fishing is seen @ pic. This is remote area in Eranakulam dist. of kerala, people here still live in 1950's and they are happy with what they have. This place is a group of nine islands surrounded by the backwaters of periyar.Roadways to this area was set up in 2002 by the kerala gov.In olden times people used to travel by boats to the cities.Native people of this island is greatly depended on the resources from the river. Now the river is polluted to a large extend and people are trying to evacuate the place.Protest against the pollution is at a low ebb, people should come forward to preserve the natural beauty.Hope my beloved readers would support me to save the dying islands.Furter details will be posted in the upcomming days
